Ferruginous Hawk

Ferruginous Hawk, (Buteo regalis) is a large bird of prey and belongs to the broad-winged buteo hawks. An old colloquial name is ferrugineous rough-leg, due to its similarity to the closely related rough-legged hawk. Its range includes east central Alberta.

My canvass holds years of Alberta's history from in and around the Drumheller Valley. This weathered wood stood in the badlands sun, wind, and winters for 60 to 80 years. Nail holes, grain, and patina aren’t flaws — they’re a big part of the story.
